SCHOOLHOUSE
SF SCHOOLHOUSE
— Updated 9.9.25 — This page will be updated weekly with a brief recap and notes for parents.
Welcome to Rock Band Land! We are thrilled to welcome SF Schoolhouse rockers to the castle. Before we get cooking, here are some basics to fill you in on the mind-blowing experience your rockers will have at RBL.
Program Description
Rock Band Land (RBL) will provide supplemental music / creative arts education to the students ("rockers") of Schoolhouse (SH) in the form of RBL's tried-and-true, unorthodox methods of encouraging creative expression and collaboration through rock music, storytelling, and comedy. SH rockers will form three distinct bands with each band meeting once weekly, for 90 minutes, on either Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday. RBL will introduce each band to two classic RBL songs per band (6 total) and teach them on the instrument of the rockers' choice: drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, voice. Once selected each rocker will stay on the instrument of their choice for the duration of the program.
Though the primary focus will be on instrument instruction, RBL will also provide a rich variety of non-instrument based activities that are beneficial to the band / creative collaboration process, including, but not limited to, lyric lessons, choir arrangements, story writing, songwriting, games, poetry exercises, karaoke, brainstorms, recording, art projects, public speaking, improv comedy, etc...
No experience is necessary to participate and RBL will meet each rocker where they are at, providing both support and challenges to best encourage them on their paths towards becoming better artists, bandmates, and people.
Where is RBL?
Rock Band Land resides within a secret castle in the Mission (400-E Treat Ave).

Basic RBL Rules & Expectations
1. Have Fun.
2. Be cool.
3. No Potty Words.
Poop is hilarious, but once we start talking about crap, the art we make tends to resemble it. For this age group, “No Potty Words” really means watch your language, but RBL is a place of creative expression and all humans are encouraged to speak freely and with respect for others.
We expect the rockers to show up with a possessive attitude, a sense of humor, a willingness to collaborate, and to show respect for the RBL staff. If they arrive each week with those four things, regardless of their current musical ability, we’ll get them gelling as bands in no time.
Practice Materials
Though not required, if your rocker has the ability to practice at home it will certainly enrich this experience and make them better prepared for the final show. RBL will also supply all materials and will supplement per specific rocker’s needs.
Song Materials Folder - This folder includes lyrics, and lesson of various levels per instrument.
The folder is currently empty and will be added to by the end of each group’s first week.
Tuesday Playlist — Will be linked by the end of each group’s first week.
Thursday Playlist — Will be linked by the end of each group’s first week.
Friday Playlist — Will be linked by the end of each group’s first week.
Final Performance
This rich experience will culminate with a live performance by the participating rockers at RBL's Holiday Show on Sunday, December 14 at The Verdi Club. Exact showtimes for our various bands won’t be decided until late November, but you can plan on your rocker being at this event from roughly 2:00 - 5:00. The show will last until about 8:00 and it will be awesome.
